Looks like Saturday's forecast will be great for Auto-X!  There are only 4 spots left for the School so don't miss out....

And remember the regular event starts after lunch and will be wrapped up by dinner time.

I feel like I've gotten a lot out of these local autocross schools.  Learned something every time.  I can't believe it isn't filled up yet!

Is the afternoon AutoX like a low-key / test & tune event?  I have fresh tires to scrub in and I was hoping to just show up, do a few runs, then head home.

It is just a condensed autocross. You will hae to work/run like normal but hopefully it will be done at a much faster pace.

I need to drive like that more often: So calm and smooth that the small mistakes really stand out instead of being lost in all the big ones.  I also feel that it was my best effort this year regarding staying tight to cones.  I also only noticeably overdrove the car once coming into the showcase, but I think concentrating on being tight the entire time prevented me from doing that for the most part.

I also learned that there are certain turns that at the right (or in my case, wrong) radius, the exit cone I'm looking for is completely blocked by my passenger side A-pillar.  You can see the result of this on my very first run.

I did actually take a few photos and I'll try to have them up tonight.

Thanks to everyone who came out for both the school and Event 1  :).  Minus a small timing issued that delayed the first Heat everyone got 10 runs + fun runs and we wrapped up by 4:30.  Here are the final results and raw times.

Thanks,
Frank

Things I learned - driving the BRZ is still fun at an autocross (until the high pressure fuel pump starts twittering, and then I remembered why I got rid of one).  A stock focus ST is big and floaty on stock rubber and stock shocks.  Mini Coopers are a fricken blast to drive.  Got to find one with a LSD (that won't blow up).

New tires scrubbed.   ;D

I'm getting to run one next Saturday up at Indiana (PA). Any pro tips?

If you can get the tires to stick, you can be aggressive on almost any course without screwing up your run.

No low rpm digs.  Keep it above 5k rpm.

Are they really that down on power? Does shifting to 1st help?

My 1st goes to 42, 2nd to 70. How's the gearing on them?

I'll be on RE71Rs, but pretty sure the rest of the car is completely stock.

Yes, they are really that down on power.  First gear to 28ish.  Second gear to 58ish.
I was trying to help Pete Schnoor (sp) with his brz and he caught the turn wrong which bogged the car.
It took a looooonnnnggg time to get the rpm's back up.  This is a quick turning, very good transition, momentum car.
It won't do stupid things unless you do something really stupid while driving it.  You can trust the feeling you get from the car.

Think Miata, not Corvette.

Like Joe said, more like miata than vette, little torque, and below 4k it is really weak - the power flattens or dips between 3 & 4k.  That said, and I may be wrong, but I have not felt it would be beneficial to downshift to first and then shift back to second during a run.
