Hello from N Huntingdon, PA (15642)
« on: September 08, 2010, 11:03:55 AM »
Hey everyone...

God damn do I miss performance cars... I'm actually without a car at the moment (just my truck) but will be getting a car (either a e36 BMW M3 or e39 BMW M5... probably the M5 cos I'm dieing to get a V8 car) hopefully before the end of the year.  I would like to hit every Flat Out day at Beaverun next year, some HPDEs, as well as hopefully make it to Mid-Ohio, Nelson Ledges, and maybe even VIR or Watkins Glen if I can find the time.

I'm a big BMW guy, and have done motor swaps, suspension swaps, etc etc.  I use to have a website but getting all of those emails asking for help on how to do stuff got annoying after awhile.  Depending on my time I might like to get into Steel Cities SCCA stuff, but we'll see.  Not sure what kind of time/$ is involved in it.

Anyway... howdy.

Hi Dark Helmet... there a decent crew for autocrossing in this area or do most just like to go to the Show & Shines at the Hills?

depends on the crowd you are around.

I race and I'm at the car cruise each weekend that I can make it to.

Depends on what you drive and your age and such...

If you're talking to people here... we're all more GO than SHOW.

Oh, I forgot to mention - your experience with some of this stuff is pursuant to my interests.  Although for some reason this moth can't get away from the silver e36 flame.

You need to get back on the track - you're starting to get a little iffy.   :P  ;)

Welcoime aboard!

Hi Dark Helmet... there a decent crew for autocrossing in this area or do most just like to go to the Show & Shines at the Hills?

Basically if we are in a parking lot we're there to race lol  A large portion of the this site is autocrossers.  And we have a really good base of people into hillclimbs, time trials, track days, and road racing too.  We welcome rally, drifting, and drag racing stuff also  ;)  .  Steel Cities has two more events left.  But the North Hills Sports Car Club is starting in a week or two and has another 4 events before the year is out.

FWIW, I haven't washed my car since my last wreck (last year) and haven't wrecked since ;D I promised someone I would wash it before Putnam but am starting to second guess that :-X

For that I guess I would get the boot from a show and shine as my car has no show and sure as shit doesn't shine :P

BTW, Welcome to the site!

I have to keep my Z relatively clean... if not, then I have to give up my gold chains.

LOL... thanks for the warm welcome.  I gotta get a bimmer asap... I've owned an e30, e36, e24, e34, and an e46.... don't think I'm forgetting anything... I've owned a couple VWs and an Audi TT, but much prefer RWD.  I'm 33 and definitely into more go than show.... i'll take a car through a carwash rather than spend a couple hours of my own time detailing it myself.

Anyway... i'll be around, just want to make sure I don't miss out on the start of the season at Beaverun next year.  I'd like to hit Group 3 there, if not take the instructor's cert.  We'll see...

welcome to the site.  Every once in a great while I make a cruise, I think my cone rashed Cobra makes for a nice contrast with the rest of the spic-n-span shiny mustangs. :P

I will say... I've only been so-so of an American muscle fan, a lot of it is hit or miss, and very little is any good when there is a curve in the road, but jesus that new 5.0L mustang really seems to show the current BMW M3 what's up.  Not sure how Motor Trend can justify something like a 0.1 second "win" to the M3, especially when the Mustang is $25k less... very interesting.

I use to like the current Camaro, but they are every where, and when I saw, what, 4 of them either catch on fire or scatter their engines at the Grand-Am Continental race in NJ (on TV, wasn't there) I was a little disappointed.

Dodge Challenger isn't even an also-ran in my book.

You are familiar with the front end of an e46 I assume...   Take a gander at the 05+ mustang front end assembly:

http://www.allfordmustangs.com/forums/attachments/2005-2010-mustang-gt-tech/33361d1190169028-2005-mustang-gt-front-rear-suspension-diagrams-needed-front-suspension-exploded-view.pdf

Yep there was only one basic geometry difference between the Bimmer front susp. and the 95-04 mustang one, to the mustangs detriment.  They fixed that in 05.
