Newcomer to RacePA 66 STU
« on: August 31, 2010, 06:10:28 PM »
Hey Guys,
Well finally joned RacePA. My name is Brian and ive been around here and there the past 2 years or so. I did a few events at north park, beaverun and consol last year but this year have been trying to make them all. Did the time trial this year and am doing the Sept 19th flat out day as well. Ive met and talked with a bunch of you and finally joined this forum and can hopefully learn some good tips and ideas and become a better driver.
I drive the wingless blue 05 STi in STU class currently.
Thanks to everyone that has already helped me out and I look forward to learning as much as I can from everyone else.

Welcome to RPA!  Glad you found the place.  :)

I doubt I'll make it to the last SCR events, but if you are planning on making any NHSCC events, don't be a stranger.

I should be able to make most of the NHSCC events so ill see you there.

Yeah STU has been pretty tough with Frank and Kristi kicking butt. But its been good to watch and learn from them. Hopefully next year I can be competitive

Frank and Kristi have Ohlins on their Evo... I mention this because have a set of Ohlins to fit your STi that I need rid of, badly.  And good dampers and tuning are the single biggest thing you can do to make a car easy to drive fast.  In fact @ Nationals I had Frank change the rear shocks quite a bit on the T&T course, and I believe they stayed with that for Nationals too.

Sam,
Yes indeed we ran the evo at nationals just the way you recommeded to.

Brian,
One of the best mods you can do is put a good set of coilovers on your car.  Ohlins are definately one of the top setups, and plus if you decided to get them now for STU and later on move into another class such as BSP or SM you can just change the springs to stiffer ones without having to buy a completely different coilover set.  The reason I spent the money for the Ohlins instead of buying a set for around $1200 is that anyone I talked to who bought a cheap set ended up hating them because they did not perform well.  And in the end they still went and spent around $3000 to get a good setup.  One thing I have tried to do to save money is buy the right part the first time, even if it means spending a bit more now.

If you had an 04 STI, I'd sell you my zzyzx's (koni 8611) coilovers
