VHS to DVD Advice
« on: November 22, 2010, 11:42:22 PM »
OK to all you computer/video savvy peeps.  I got a VHS tape with about 2 hours of video and 2 Mini DV tapes from my camcorder.  I want to try and get all of it onto a DVD that I can edit.  What is the cheapest and easiest way to do it.  I am only going to probably do it 1 time, so not looking to have to buy anything.

I know I can transfer the VHS thru my camcorder to a mini DVD and then transfer onto my computer using the cannon camcorder software.  Seems like a huge PITA!  Anyone got any software or VHS to DVD converters that will make this easy?

Thanks in advance

I can help with the camcorder as I just pulled the card you need out of my computer  (troubleshooting an issue). You can borrow it and the cable ($$ from what I remember) or I can reinstall and you can stop over and do it if your back for the xmas holiday.

As for the VHS, I too am interested.

There might be other ways to do this but the easiest way i found to do it was to go down to bestbuy and buy a VHS/DVD-R unit.  The unit i have now i can just press a button on the front and it will copy the VHS tape to the DVD.  I recently bought the below unit so I could pull stuff off of my Direct TV DVR (dam speed for blocking me from recording their stuff to DVD’s!). I haven't tried it yet on a vhs tape but i don't see why it won't do it.  Instead of connecting it to a DVR you can connect it to a VHS player.
