Beaverun Karting for noobies?
« on: May 20, 2011, 05:13:05 PM »
I've been telling my friend about the joys of autox, and he's convinced me that karting can also be a lot of fun. He had done it when he was a kid, but I've never driven anything other than amusement park go karts.

We're both in our twenties and both over 6 ft tall - does Beaverun have anything available as far as renting a kart for a few no pressure laps? Seems like most of what is going on is events for kids and pro racers.

Thanks!

Well, there are the rentals. Which will fit you and beat you up just fine. Just check the kart rental page for schedules.

They also offer "Clones" for rental on race day (Nick, please pick up the red courtesy phone - -but let me know first and I'll register too) $50 plus entry fee.

Just bring your money, pants and shoes. The rest is supplied by the track (in both cases).

uh ohh, that integra is gonna be up for sale pretty soon!   :P

i might actually have to finish building my clone if all of you guys are going to start racing them too...

Ninetyfour, are you guys going up tomorrow for the kid kart school and then practice or just race on Sunday?

aschaefer & gsrnick, stop up to the track on Sunday or any raceday and find myself or ninetyfour(not usually to hard since we pit next to each other) and we will be happy to show you around and explain the different classes etc...  Its tough to go wrong with a "clone" setup.  A clone is a chinese copy of a honda 6.5hp four stroke engine in case you didn't know.  They are stupid cheap to build and beyond easy to maintain.  I have about $1300 in mine and thats with everything new except for the chassis and tires(no new tires are allowed to keep costs down).

Good luck
Paul

Ron, I'm not officially back yet but maybe by July. Clones sound perfect for what I want to do. I've run the rentals up there on multiple occasions. Time to step up to the next level. I'll be sure to let you know when I'm back.
