Does anyone know the "Cliff Notes" version of the required licensing levels and classing for SCCA Regionals versus Restricted Regionals versus Rationals? Knowing this could help me thin the herd.
Licensing:OK, regional generically means that any SCCA license is valid and one doesn't need to have a license from that region to run that region's event, correct? National? I have no plans to try to get one of these. I am looking for minimal effort and cost to allow me to run SCCA events. If it turns out that I am severely limited with this lazy approach, I think there are plenty of other events that I can run without effort and cost using my NASA license.
One of the subplots that is going on is that I have agreed to help the V8 Stock Car Road Racing Series up north. These guys:http://www.v8stockcar.com/They currently run out of the SCCA Southeast and run SCCA events, but get their own tweaked classes. These guys have a few more resources than the northern stock car guys that I know and we are trying to make something work here like they have in the south. However, when devising the proposed schedule, they haven't yet recognized that the available pool of drivers up here might have restrictions that could limit participation. I am trying to work through this and understand the various limitations that our schedule will create before contacting other drivers. I suppose I need to read the GCR when it comes to licensing and classing, but I have been a little lazy about it so far.
Thanks for the clarification. I DO know that as of January of this year, the SCCA started accepting NASA licenses for all regional races, but there are some regions that won't accept this - according to Butch.Yes, Butch is involved and over the last 2 weeks, a group of 4 of us have been in contact including Butch. We are collectively trying to finalize our schedule but this morning, I pointed out that the VIR event was listed as a National and this could limit participation up here. Regardless, a tow that far is a hard sell for me anyway.I have also suggested to the V8 guys that we piggyback onto other organizations such as NASA, EMRA and IMG and keep track of our points "amongst us girls" but I guess running anything other than an SCCA event would be frowned upon. It's still a work in progress.
Back to licensing... From what I understand, you don't ever actually run an SCCA event with your NASA license. Your NASA license will qualify you to receive an SCCA license (which you pay for). So once you go to an event at whatever region accepts the NASA license as qualification for an SCCA license, you'll now be SCCA licensed and can go run any SCCA event (given the regional / national distinction).

Thanks for posting up this schedule! Was going to send a PM but figured I'd post in case others had similar questions...What group is "IMG" for the August 18-19, BeaveRun event? Also, the May 2-3 Watkins Glen, NASA NE doesn't show up on the NASA NE site...they do post a HPDE event on April 30-May 1, but i didn't see a race event. Hope this is accurate as it would be great to race at the Glen with NASA more than once a year in late September Thanks!
