Who here is going for their road race license in 2012?
« on: February 15, 2012, 05:47:24 AM »
After reading some posts in another thread, it appeared to me that some folk are firmly planning on getting their race license this year and others are "on the fence".

I sure would like to see some of you guys come out and play.  Since I defected from autocross to racing, I haven't been able to come and autocross with you guys (too many weekends away from home/wrenching).

Ok, so who is thinking a road race licesnse is a possibility this year?

Howdy,

I'm in.  Currently planning on hitting the double school at PIRC.  Already have my Novice permit from national, so now all I need to do (lol) is get the car ready to drive.  :-)

I have been at least kicking the tyres and investigating some rental options for the school.  I would certainly prefer to do the one at PIRC because I will know people there.  There is one a lot closer at Gingerman, and I know of an available car for that.

I talked to one Miata rental place that wasn't considering PIRC, but would do it if they could bring one additional car.  Anyone else need a ride for the event?  :-)

Post up costs.  Ricky and I are both planning on the school.  Neither of us have our cars put together yet.

You do the math.

Mark,

You have PM.

Let's just say that it gets cheaper for each additional person that rents, so if anyone else is interested let me know.

I've thought about doing the drivers school just for the fact that it is a SCR event and i wouldn't mind getting my license. That weekend seems to be a very popular weekend tho. Here is a list of event i'd like to do all on the same weekend. Rally New York, NASA at Autobahn, MCSCC driver school (which would get me into a local race series, and a pretty decent one at that) and then the SCR driver school. I really need to decide what my goals for the year are.

Contact Jim Locke if you are looking to rent cars for the school.  He either has, or has access to, several of the Miatas that we had at the track previously that are owned by Baglier Racing.

I think Jimmy Locke may be looking to get his license so that may be all the more reason for them to be there for the school.

Looks like I am out for this one - not willing to pull the financial trigger just yet.  Good luck to all participating.

Hi all,.
I'm made it to Summit Point about 3:30 PM yesterday, got fitted in a SSM Miata, went through registration and a 2:30 hour driving school introduction, it ended at 10 pm. We'll be on the track at 9 am this morning in the instructors car to see the "line". We were told to get a good night sleep because it is going to be a long day in 80 degree heat. We should get about 3 hour track time today, More info when i get back from the class. ;D

Hi,
The first day was intense. Class room then on the track they didn't mess around and this happened all day long. You had about 10 minutes between class room and on the track. I think we had about 20 minutes for lunch the first day. There was a total of 2 hour of track time in the car the first day. There is no way to do this in less you have an ultra reliable car and a crew helping. I was so tired last night I went to bed a 8 pm. By the end of the day the Miada, track and me started to understand each other.

Day two,
The hot sunny of Friday turned into a cool rainy Saturday. The first session started dry but turned to damp.  Dry tiers were very sick. Now its time for the practice race and it's pouring rain and I'm not to excited about doing the practice race in the rain. The crew put on the rains but I still did not know what to expect. I think everyone had the same fear about the rain so every on was well behaved and the practice race went off fairly smooth. I think everyone passed school one.

Okay the second part of the day, it's still raining, they changed our instructors and they are still pushing us to find our limits. I have been good in the rain so far but the rain stopped and it looks like the the track is drying. I ended up with three offs in the last session Yuk.

So far I can't ask for more with a school with wet and dry conditions but I hope for the practice race to be in the dry tomorrow.  ;D

Thanks for the report, Chris.

In cardom, the day you get your license will only be eclipsed by the day that you take your first green in a race with your new license.
