May 23-24         Pagoda Hillclimb in Reading, PA  4 hours 47 minutes

They don't take as long to get to as google says they do, but they are by far the closest hillclimbs to us, and if you did one you would understand why we drive so far to get to them.

Same with road racing FWIW. NP doesn't seem so appealing even though its 7min from my door as compared to Mid Ohio 3.5hrs away (towing).

I still enjoy autocrossing, but once you hit that road race/time trial/hillclimb crackpipe, it is definitely hard to be as dedicated to it.

Traveling 3-5 hours to go to a 1 day event would require a great deal of dedication.  But everyone who is thinking like that about a weekend event is missing the point.  Many of you go away on vacations that require much more travel time.  Hillclimb events and Road Racing weekends are similar to that.

You pull in Friday afternoon and the event and festivities last until Sunday at 6pm.  The amount of fun per hour of travel time is well worth it.

And people say that it's crazy to travel all the way to Kansas to go to Solo Nationals when you only get 6 minutes of seat time for both days.  Again - missing the point.  I have been to Solo Nationals several times and  - - well - - I can't really talk about it here.  What goes on the week of Solo Nationals stays at Solo Nationals.  But it is lots of fun.

What all 3 venues require is guts.  Hillclimbing and Road Racing requires a certain level of courage - not everyone has that.  And even though at Solo Nationals you are not likely going to hurt your car or yourself, it takes real courage to test your skills against the best in the country.  You may think you have a good car and are a good driver - but you run the risk of coming back home after having all of your self-esteem surgically removed by the top cars/drivers.

But you gain NOTHING in life unless you risk something every once in awhile.  A life without testing your limits or putting your ego out on the line from time to time must be a boring life.  I wouldn't know.

Bring her to the pre-season Hillclimb/TT meeting at the Murphy's.  We'll hypnotize her.
