NHSCC / May 12 Drivers School
« on: April 24, 2012, 11:07:08 PM »
This would be my 1st "drivers school"

Info from NHSCC website:
May 12 /Drivers School / Ralph & Jay
$25 event registration fee applies, you want to be there early as registration is from 8:30 - 9:30

Kurt, (Bluemeanie) was telling me that this would be a great opportunity for me to get some veteran instruction.
And explained that the day operates just like an event however I would be given some "classroom instruction" as well as a veteran co-drive instruction to help me better understand autocross.

I did 2 NHSCC events last year and one SCR event, I feel like this is for me and want to learn what I can from others while still getting seat time. I'm going to try to wrangle up some others too.

In order to get intelligent answers, you must speak intelligently.

Yeah, it is nowhere near the level of involvement that the EVO school (also HIGHLY recommended) was a couple weeks ago...  But basic elements of an autoX will be deconstructed and you'll get practice and instruction on how to tackle them.  Also, expect plenty of seat time to practice what you have learned.

Definitely worth going to.  I went to my first school last year and had a lot of fun. I can't remember who I had in my car but the advice certainly stuck with me. I'm kind of sad I won't be able to make it this year.

My daughter has expressed interest.  We'll see if she follows through.

Who teaches the course?

Yes.   :P

Edit:  Club members volunteer to work the event...  Some shag cones all day long, some instruct.

You are way too talented to shag cones. Maybe you can instruct me? :P

Nice comeback in the first event BTW.

I am trying to spin alot of plates at the moment.

My daughter would like to run this event but she will be one-week away from being 18.  This means that waivers needs to be signed.

In parallel, I am busting my butt to be able to get my car ready for the EMRA races May 19/20.  I am also hosting a big Mother's Day do at the house on the 13th...

Anyway, when it comes to waivers and minors at the NHSCC for a driver's school:

1) Does the waiver have to be signed on-site or can this be done in advance?
2) Does the adult have to specifically be the parent or can it be a grandparent?  (In case my Dad would be willing and available to be present.)
3) Does the adult have to be present for the entire event or is signing the waiver enough?

Just trying to have my cake and eat it, too.

Thanks.

Doug's email is on the contact page - http://www.nhscc.com/contact.html

I suggest you email him those questions directly.  I know there are some restrictions, but don't know what they are off the top of my head.

Hi Keith,

These are the words for the NHSCC Additions to the Rules & Policies:
"Minor drivers (defined as anyone under the age of eighteen (18) years) must be the son, daughter, or be in the legal custody of a current active or life member of The North Hills Sports Car Club who is of legal age. The parents or legal guardians of said minor must sign the Minor Waiver Forms in the presence of a Club officer, agreeing to assume the liability detailed in paragraph Number One of this section."

Cheers

Thanks Dave - I knew about that and what it says is clear.  It is what it doesn't say...

I suppose I need to check with Doug.

Thanks.

Bump!

North Hills Drivers School is this Saturday the 12th. Anyone with less than 3 autox events is welcome to attend. We will need experienced drivers to instruct and some course workers.

Thanks!

Gotta say, I'm pretty proud of the students I got to work with today.  Lots of enthusiasm and interest and questions and lots of listening to instructions.  I really thought everyone did a good job getting the most out of the drivers school.

Hope everyone enjoyed themselves and hope to se more than a few at upcoming events.
