Ok... so I'm not right now in danger of losing my job, but they just cut our hours here... 32 hr weeks for the forseeable future and that isn't good.

Anyone know any places looking for drafting people ( architecture or structural steel perferrably ) or engineering where I could work under them as a design draftsman?

I've been doing this over 20 years now, and not been thin like this in a while.

Just testing the waters.

Thanks, Nick

I'm WAY underqualified for anything there..... that was depressing...lol

A little background.... started drafting work when I was in HS ( 17 first paying drafting job ) and have been working in the steel fabrication business since 1990. I started on the board drawing the right way and I've had tons of work in ACAD since I was 16.

Don't have training on all the new 3D modelling programs but I understand the basics of it.

I've been making fabrication dwgs for most of my adult life and feel I could be an asset for a structural engineering firm, or even an architectural place, but the rest are basically me starting over with experience.

I don't have any degrees whatsoever. Just have practical knowledge and real world experience.

Anyway.... I've had alot of great tips and directoins I can look into, thanks to many RPA folks.

I'm getting some info together to give to my headhunter that's placed me in a few places over the years. He even has some leads for TN as a last resort.

I am on the design team for this:

(That newspaper hates our company and made sure that they had unflattering pictures of Darin and Terry - look closely.)

There are about 36 of us engineers from different disciplines coordinating ?? vendors, suppliers and installation contractors for the design and construction of the facility.

There is always scope popping up that fell through the cracks that we do ourselves.  This always involves updating our supplier's CAD (and as an extension 3D) stuff that had been delivered by our suppliers.

Last week, our on-team CAD guy retired.  Right now we don't have an on-team CAD guy so for now (as an example) I am sketching up the design of a control room in PowerPoint waiting to hand it to someone to integrate it into the overall facility drawings properly.

I know that our boss has scheduled interviews for a replacement and I also know that the retired guy might come back as a contractor (which is typical in metals companies).  I really don't know where things lie with this because I am off on my own adventures at the moment.

If this looks like something that would be interesting to you, contact me via e-mail and let's see what happens...
