I've grown lazy in recent years. Work gives me a laptop, I abuse it until I break it enough to require a new one and they send it to me. I built a home tower 4+ yrs ago and couldn't tell you what it is anymore but still runs faster than my laptops and runs my racing sims with ease. In other words, the tech language is quickly becoming all greek to me.
That said, my wife is looking for a tablet. I'm not apple fan but from a non-tech point-of-view are the ipads generally as good or <ugh> better than an Andriod device? Specifically looking at the ipad 2 vs something like the Samsung Galaxy Tab or Toshiba Excite (see link for models: http://tinyurl.com/dyhsmwx). The kids have ipods, so she is familiar with that OS/platform. if you were buying for your wife what would you get her?

The Ipad is pretty much bulletproof and intuitive. I've never used any of the Android ones so can't speak to that.

Get a new iPad with the retina screen.

I am not a fan of apple anything. But I must say after having an andriod device that hardly runs anymore because of viruses and unstable bs apps. That the ipad sounds pretty sweet right about now.. plus they are so easy to use my 85yo grandmother can use on with ease. So pretty simple to use. Plus I don't think anything else on the market right now is quite the size of an ipad.
But damn I hate apple and I tunes and Inonsense. More like ipoop. Its trendyness that's good for the masses, but it works so well. Ipad retina
